Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Geosciences is seeking adjunct faculty members to teach courses in the areas of World Regional Geography, Human Geography, and Physical Geography at the undergraduate level. These courses are offered in-person, hybrid, and online, with experience in all three instruction methods preferred. This position is for one year, providing temporary course replacement for a faculty member with course releases, with 2 courses in Fall and 4 courses in Spring.

The adjunct faculty member will be required to:

  • Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus.
  • Collaborate collegially with faculty, Department Head, and curriculum chair about curricular and programmatic issues and needs.
  • Collaborate collegially with faculty, administration and staff to support the students, strategic plan, goals and business operations of the college; Work collegially as part of both discipline-specific and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Teach up to 12 credit hours per semester as assigned.
  • Maintain availability for meetings with students and colleagues as needed throughout the semester.
  • Respond promptly to the Department Head requests.
  • Attend Adjunct Orientation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Department Information

Chemistry and Geosciences is one of the most diverse and dynamic of all the departments at Jacksonville State University. We offer a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry and Geography. A master's degree in Geographic Information Science and Technology and also offer minors in Chemistry, Geography and Physics.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geography, GIS, or related area, or training and experience in the field to be qualified to teach specific courses.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in one or more of the program areas indicated above.
  • College or University teaching experience.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
