University Student Assistant - WLJS-FM News & Talk Director (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The WLJS-FM news & talk director helps the program director plan, manage, and supervise the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media, and other forms of media. Specifically, the news & talk director is responsible for developing informational and entertainment programming that relies on speech and conversation to ensure WLJS provides programs that are of value to JSU students and the broader university community. As a member of the WLJS student staff, the news & talk director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The news & talk director must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide. The news & talk director also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff. University Student Assistant - WLJS Music Director (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The WLJS-FM music director helps the program director plan, manage, and supervise the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media, and other forms of media. Specifically, the music director is responsible for reviewing and selecting music for WLJS’s regular programming, preparing song lists for rotation shifts and specialty music shows to ensure WLJS provides music programming that is of value to JSU students and the broader university community. As a member of the WLJS student staff, the music director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The music director must be or become familiar with music rights licensing requirements and help ensure the station’s compliance with those requirements. The music director also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff. University Student Assistant - The Chanticleer Section Editors (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The University Student Assistant/Chanticleer section editors help the editor-in-chief plan, manage, and supervise the coverage and publication of The Chanticleer, JSU’s student-run news organization, across all its platforms, which may include the web, social media, print and other forms of media. The section editors work with the editor-in-chief to ensure The Chanticleer provides timely, editorially independent coverage of events and issues that are important to JSU students and the broader university community. Students in this position are assigned to manage coverage of general news, feature stories and sports under the supervision of the editor-in-chief and with the assistance and advice of the director of student media, with whom the editorial staff must work closely on all matters relating to content and publication. Editors must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide for The Chanticleer’s newsgathering and publication. University Student Assistant - SSC 2nd Floor Front Desk Assistant (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The duties of a front desk assistant in the Student Success Center (SSC) are to provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff, direct students to the appropriate tutor or staff member in the SSC, ensure that students are checked in/out of JSU Navigate, and to assist with monitoring the SSC 2nd floor. Front desk assistants must have strong communication skills and should be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Understanding and compliance of FERPA is mandatory. Front desk assistants must be available for all mandatory training sessions, meetings, and workshops. They must be flexible and available to work outside of their class schedules, they must be dependable, and they must be punctual for their shifts. All SSC front desk assistants are expected to work well with their peers in an academic environment, and they must be willing to work with a diverse population. Knowledge of the SSC, academic support, tutoring, student resources, and other campus service departments is expected. University Student Assistant - Model for Art Department (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The University Student Assistant/ Art Model position will allow you to obtain work experience in the Figure Drawing/ Painting classes as a model. The University Student Assistant/ Art Model is responsible for modeling a variety of poses sustained over varying periods of time. This position requires you to be able to maintain a professional attitude and appearance, while being patient and discreet. Duties for the art model include but are not limited to, sitting, and standing in a pose for a period of time so that students can draw you. University Student Assistant - Supplemental Instruction (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program that targets historically difficult courses. SI sessions are regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions for all students enrolled in a targeted course. The sessions are informal seminars in which students review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations. Students learn how to integrate course content with reasoning and study skills. SI sessions are conducted by a student leader who has successfully completed the course, attends the course, and works with the professor to design collaborative learning sessions for the students to attend on a voluntary basis. SI leaders support classroom instruction in every way. Likewise, the SI program is offered only in classes where the faculty member understands and supports Supplemental Instruction.
